How are Naturopathic Doctors trained?

Naturopathic Doctors attend nationally accredited four-year, graduate-level naturopathic medical school where the curriculum covers both traditional medical sciences as well as natural approaches to therapy, disease prevention, and clinical education. Enrollment in naturopathic medical school requires a bachelor's degree and completion of medical school prerequisites similar to conventional medical schools. After graduation, NDs are eligible to sit for standardized National Board Exams given by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners in order to receive a license to practice. While licensure and scope of practice differ state by state, NDs in California are regulated by the Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine. Licensure ensures that Naturopathic Doctors have the required educational training, have passed the required examinations, and have met continuing educational requirements that help them stay current with professional practice. Please note that this level of education and training for a Naturopathic Doctor is distinctly different than that of someone who may refer to themselves as a Naturopath in the state of California.

How can I prepare for my first office visit?

Please review and complete the paperwork listed in Become A Patient. Your initial office visit is a comprehensive one-on-one consultation during which Dr. Holtski will work to gather a complete picture of you, or your child’s, current healthcare concerns as well as review your medical history and wellness goals. After assessing your health needs, Dr. Holtski will begin developing your treatment plan which may include dietary changes, exercise or physical medicine, stress reduction, herbal medicines, nutrient supplements,  and/or additional testing through a conventional lab or one specializing in functional medicine. The initial office visit typically takes about 60-90 minutes, and the first follow-up visit is usually scheduled for 2-6 weeks after the initial visit to discuss any lab work received and review your initial treatment plan. Subsequent follow-ups are determined based off of your healthcare needs and goals.

Will insurance cover my visits?

We do not bill insurance, however if you would like to submit the charges to your insurance company, please let us know and we will give you the necessary form to send them. We recommend calling your insurance company and asking if office visits with a Naturopathic Doctor are covered. Depending on your policy, insurance may cover office visits with us as an out-of-network provider.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can both be used to pay for qualifying medical expenses, including medical appointments with your Naturopathic Doctor, lab tests, prescribed supplements, over-the-counter products, and other medically necessary prescribed services

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice by telephone of a cancellation or rescheduling of your appointment. Appointments missed or cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment time will be charged 50% of the visit. No show appointments will incur the full appointment fee.
